Following the success of the four previous editions between 2022 and 2025, Chonnam National University (CNU) in Gwangju, South Korea, once again asked HollandDoor to organise a specialist training programme in the Netherlands in 2026. This year, a group of 14 students from CNU visited the Netherlands from Saturday 20 June until Saturday 18 July 2026. After completing the three-week programme, the students had the opportunity to travel to various destinations across Europe for several days. They were also joined by a group of six horticulture students from Gyeongsang National University in Jinju, who stayed for the three-week training.
The combined cohort of 20 students (7 male and 13 female) took part in a bespoke training course covering plant physiology, cultivation technology, cultivation planning, business and supply chain management, among other subjects. Fifteen separate day programmes were created to cover these subjects, each consisting of half a day of lectures and half a day of illustrative field excursions. The programme also included a one-day bespoke session at Wageningen University’s Horticulture and Product Physiology Group. With this intensive format, the students received a total of 7½ full days of lectures and visits to 28 organizations and companies.
To keep costs manageable, it was once again decided to rent nine holiday homes instead of hotel accommodation, with students preparing their own breakfasts and evening meals.
Feedback from participants was extremely positive, with students praising both the content and the delivery of the training. They returned home not only with a wealth of new technical knowledge but also enriched by the experience of living abroad and enjoying the Netherlands. These insights and experiences will undoubtedly inspire them as they embark on their professional careers.
