HollandDoor, together with DTC International (Oenkerk), has been involved in drafting the project plan for a Dairy Training Centre (DTC) near Bangalore, India, in close collaboration with the Dutch Embassy in Delhi and the Dutch Consulate in Bangalore. At present, HollandDoor and DTC International are working on the proposal for the various phases of the DTC Bangalore. We expect a final decision to be reached on the implementation of this cutting-edge dairy facility featuring Indo-Dutch design by the end of this year.
The new DTC will be a joint Indo-Dutch initiative demonstrating sustainable, profitable and inclusive dairy farming practices through advanced model farms and training units near Bangalore in India. The project consists of three phases with integrated business units:
1) 100 cow hi-tech dairy farm (phase 1a)
2) 25 cow smallholder dairy farm (phase 1b)
3) Cheese and dairy processing plant (phase 2)
4) Fodder and TMR feed centre (phase 3)
All phases will include project management, capacity building and staff training aimed at farmers, professionals, students, teachers and stakeholders across Karnataka and India as a whole.
Key dairy topics for training
India is the world’s largest milk producer, yet productivity, profitability and quality remain suboptimal. DTC Bangalore seeks to address these challenges by demonstrating scalable farm models; sustainable soil-fodder-animal cycles; value addition through processing and diagnostics; and capacity building (including e-learning). Dutch companies will provide training in key dairy-related topics, such as:
A) Fodder production, storage/silage, TMR feed
B) Feeding systems and rations, nutrition, feed quality
C) Animal health, welfare, treatment of diseases (incl. Ayurveda)
D) Data collection, herd management software, sensors
E) Dairy and cheese processing, milk cooling and testing, milk quality
F) Farm organization, management and economics
G) Sustainability, circular farming, soil-water-plant-animal approach
Objectives for the DTC Bangalore
Our vision is to foster a sustainable, inclusive and commercially viable dairy ecosystem led by Indo-Dutch collaboration. The main objectives for the DTC Bangalore are:
1) To promote modern dairy practices, including sensor technology, AMR-free production, TMR and cheese-making
2) To demonstrate circular economy through integration of manure, feed and biogas; adding value for women and young people; producing high quality products; and enabling SME implementation for dairy products
3) To train 1,000+ dairy professionals and teachers annually with the aim of reaching 10,000+ farmers and students per year via the Train the Trainer programme
4) To enable scalable business models for 25-cow and 100-cow dairy farms in India.
