At the end of December 2025, HollandDoor hosted a delegation from the Georgian Farmers Association (GFA) on a high-impact study tour in the Netherlands. The programme was part of the EU-funded CAPCA project, aimed at promoting Georgia's socio-economic development through improved food safety and increased agricultural exports.
The delegation, consisting of active dairy farmers and GFA project leaders, engaged in an intensive programme designed to bridge the gap between EU regulatory theory and daily farm operations. A major highlight for the participants was the focus on food safety. In expert-led sessions, the group gained a comprehensive understanding of registration requirements and the dairy certification scheme. This strategic knowledge provided the group with plenty of food for thought on the professionalization of their own dairy chains in Georgia.
Guided by HollandDoor expert Lisanne Oskam, the group explored the diversity of the Dutch sector through a series of visits focusing on:
Food safety: expert sessions on regulatory requirements and the dairy certification scheme provided a clear roadmap for improving consumer protection and export potential.
Diverse farm management: visits to several dairy farms—ranging from high-tech robotic milking operations to nature-inclusive organic systems—offered practical examples of how to optimize daily operations.
Animal welfare and health: demonstrations of "CowSignals®" and strategic disease prevention at Royal GD showcased the vital link between animal welfare and high-quality production.
The participants noted that the combination of expert theory and real-world observations offered a fresh perspective on Good Agricultural Practices. While the differences between Georgian and Dutch dairy farming remain significant, this tour provided the delegates with the insights they need to begin aligning their local practices with international food safety standards.
