To strengthen the dairy sector, HollandDoor experts conducted lively online workshops in 2020 for dairy advisors and other professionals in Sri Lanka and India. We used a well-known program called 'CowSignals® for health and housing' alongside our own feeding and milking courses. Some of the highlights included interactive videos, practical checklists and several Q&A opportunities. We hope to begin in-person workshops in the second half of 2021.
To improve cows’ feeding, health and milking, the topics we cover include:
- fodder production and silage;
- feeding systems and nutrition;
- health and mastitis control, and disease prevention;
- milking systems and milk quality;
- reproduction, breeding and AI; and
- raising young stock and heifers.
‘As a trainer, I know the importance of explaining things in simple but convincing words to farmers. This course explains six basic principles of cow comfort in a very simple, easy-to-understand and convincing way. Many farmers are unaware of the relevance of these factors or they neglect them. I couldn't stop watching the course’s short videos one after the other. The topics are interesting, practical, relevant for day-to-day management and often inexpensive.’

In our current program, we work with the Dutch Embassy in Delhi and The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO: Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland) in The Hague in a so-called knowledge-to-knowledge (K2K) program. In India, we work with organizations such as the National Diary Development Board (NDDB), the Dutch Diary Cluster India (DDCI), Solidaridad, COE Baramati, and several feed producers and dairy processors. Our Dutch partners are VHL Leeuwarden, Wellant College Houten, WUR Wageningen and the Dairy NL clusters in India and Sri Lanka..
